 Blackberry
(Rubus lacinatus/macropetalus/procerus)

Description:
A Perennial bush weed. New plants start each year from the base of the parent plant, from underground rhizomes, and from seeds. The canes (stems) are from light green in early growth, to a rusty brown in mature growth. The canes also have sharp thorns that may grow to 3/4 of an inch long. The leaves are oblong, pointed a the tip, and have saw like edges. The flowers are usually white and about one inch in diameter.

Control:

  • Mechanical: Mowing has little effect because of the underground rhizomes and new growth from the parent plant.
  • Biological: Unknown at this time.
  • Herbicide: Consult your local Noxious Weed Board.
