Spotted Knapweed

(centaurea maculosa)

Description:
Spotted Knapweed is a biennial or short lived perennial with a stout taproot. It has one or more stems up to three feet tall. The plants produce a pinkish-purple flower at the end of each branch. Bracts have dark spots tipped with fringe. Leaves are finely divided.
 

  • Mechanical: The plant may need to be cut several times, during growing season, to prevent seed production.
  • Biological: Urahora Affinis & Uraphora quadrifasciata
  • Herbicide: Refer to the State Noxious Weed Control Board site
  • Cultural: Regrowth is hindered if a competitive crop of perennial grass is established
